New Student Orientation/Registration Form

The staff of the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Community Engagement and New Student Programs would like to congratulate our newly admitted students. We are pleased that you have chosen to become a part of the Lehman community, and look forward to supporting you in your transition and college career. Lehman faculty and staff are focused on assisting you, as an incoming student, in your transition and want to provide you with the best possible foundation for your college experience. To this end, we have designed an engaging orientation program with you in mind.

Orientation is geared toward creating several opportunities throughout the day, allowing participants to obtain answers to questions, and to get specific issues addressed. Key representatives from Admissions, Testing, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, and other Lehman administrators, faculty, staff, and students will be available throughout the program for your specific questions or concerns. Because we know that participation in orientation can make a significant difference in your experiences as a Lehman student, all new students are expected to attend.

For disability related accommodations during orientation, contact the Office of Student Disability Services at 718-960-8441.

If you are an international student, please contact the International Student and Scholar Office (Shuster, Room 280) at 718-960-7274 or email isso.shuster@lehman.cuny.edu.

Graduate New Student Orientation

Friday, August 30, 2019
5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Music Building, Faculty Dining Room

  • Learn what to expect as a graduate student
  • Each student will participate in a series of workshops designed to increase graduate student success at Lehman (see below)
  • Meet, greet and eat with departments, Deans and faculty members!

Workshop Descriptions

IT @ Lehman (Information Technology Division):

The session will cover access to essential IT services including email, CUNYfirst and Blackboard; support services including the Help Desk, instructor-led and online IT training, and documentation; mobile computing; facilities including the IT Center, smart classrooms and the Media Services.

Summarizing and Synthesizing Sources – A Refresher Workshop - (Instructional Support Services Program):

This workshop will provide an overview of some key elements of writing a research paper, with a focus on using sources ethically during the preliminary stages of the researching and writing process.  We’ll look at samples of accurate and fair paraphrase, and discuss strategies for avoiding inadvertent plagiarism of sources.

Introduction to the Leonard Lief Library: Ready to Meet Your Graduate Research Needs (Leonard Lief Library):

Get a head start on your coursework by exploring the ins and outs of the Leonard Lief Library through a virtual tour and introduction to discovery tools and online resources. You will leave the session being able to identify ways that the library can support you as you begin your Lehman graduate program.
