Our office aims to educate members of the Lehman campus community on the importance of responsible citizenship through new student orientation, community development programs, service efforts, practical application of knowledge, and an awareness of global issues impacting local communities.

There are five major components of the Office of Community Engagement and New Student Programs:

Disaster Relief Efforts

Dear Lehman College Community,

This hurricane season has affected Puerto Rico, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Barbuda, Florida and Texas just to name a few.  The most recent earthquake in Mexico has left over 200 people dead.  The Office of Community Engagement at Lehman College is doing all that we can to keep up with the issues facing the world to encourage our students to become Global Citizens. Lehman College Disaster Relief Fund - Monetary Donations:

If you chose to donate here to the “Lehman College Disaster Relief Fund”, know that your donations will be divided among the following four organizations who are working directly with the communities affected:

Hurricane Harvey - Greater Houston/Corpus Christi Food Banks Hurricane Irma -  Island Of Barbuda Elementary, Middle and High School Book Drive Hurricane Maria - Unidos Por Puerto Rico Mexico Earthquake - Topos Mexico Donation of Relief for Puerto Rico:Drop Off Locations in the Bronx to assist those in Puerto Rico are listed here and in the attached letter from Mayor DiBlasio. The City encourages donation of items that are critically needed for recovery. These items will be delivered to families directly affected by the storm. Below is a list of items New York City is collecting to send to those affected by Hurricane Maria: Diapers - Baby food – Batteries - First Aid Supplies - Feminine Hygiene Products Please note the City is only collecting the items listed above. All donated items must be non-perishable, not second-hand, nor contain any liquids of any kind. Open or unsealed donations of food or hygiene supplies will not be accepted. Wet wipes will also not be accepted. Any other items will be kindly returned. There are 18 drop off locations accepting donations across all five boroughs. Donations will be accepted during the hours of 7 am through 9 pm. Please be aware that FDNY members at these locations may not be present during drop-off hours if they are responding to an emergency Bronx.

Lehman College Books for BarbudaLehman College's Leonard Lief Library, Imagine at the Lehman College Child Care Center and the Office of Community Engagement are partnering in a Book Drive to replenish school libraries on the island of Barbuda after Hurricane Irma.

The island's three schools have asked Lehman College for our help!

We are collecting books for pre-school through high school.

We welcome donations of gently used or new books, both fiction/non-fiction.

Books can be purchased online and shipped to the library or dropped off at the library. Please visit for a wish list from the community.

Additional Information

In addition, the Lehman L.I.F.E. Alternative Break program will explore the options of working in Texas, Florida, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and other affected areas as the need arises and there is infrastructure to support such efforts. Funds donated after October 30, 2017, will help to send students to assist in the affected areas that are seeking volunteers.
