Welcome to the School of Education

Message from Interim Dean Gaoyin Qian (Read the message)

The School of Education is pleased to announce The Evalyn and Stephen Milman Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships for Innovation in Teaching Program, 2020-21

The Evalyn and Stephen Milman Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships for Innovation in Teaching are intended to recognize educator candidates who have demonstrated excellent academic performance and strong dispositions for being outstanding educators, and/or have already demonstrated leadership skills in a discipline (e.g., Early Childhood Education, Counseling Education, or Science Education). Additionally, having unique talents in the arts that can seamlessly be aligned and integrated into disciplinary curricular experiences are helpful, but they are not mandatory for scholarship application. More information and the application process.

LUTE-STEM Scholarship Program

LUTE-STEM is a teacher residency program. Highly qualified master's degree candidates who are interested in teaching mathematics and science related subjects at the early childhood, elementary, or secondary levels, as well as non-STEM future teachers interested in learning how to integrate design thinking into their instruction, are encouraged to consider LUTE-STEM as an option for completing their certification requirements. Central to the program is a year-long paid residency in a high need school (15 hours per week during fall semester and full-time during spring semester). More information about the program and application process.

The School of Education is comprised of more than twenty-five nationally recognized and/or New York State-approved teacher, counselor, and educational leader certification and advanced certificate programs. The mission is to facilitate the development of competent, caring, and qualified educators.

The School offers undergraduate and graduate programs, some offer both monolingual and bilingual options. These programs are committed to preparing pre-service and in-service teachers, educational leaders, and school counselors with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to become proficient and caring educators and counselors.

Lehman College’s School of Education is actively engaged with over 200 schools based in the Bronx, lower Westchester, as well as the other boroughs of New York City. Each of these collaborations and partnerships represents the School of Education’s commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of students, teachers, school counselors, principals, families, and school communities.

The School of Education was re-accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in 2015, while its Counselor Education program was re-accredited by Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) in 2019. The school will have the CAEP onsite visit for continuing accreditation on April 25-27, 2021. We celebrated our candidates, our graduates and our programs during a poster showcase for the 2015 CAEP on-site visit!
