Performance Opportunities and Facilities
The Theatre and Dance Programs offer a B.A. in Theatre, a B.A. in Dance and a B.F.A. in Multimedia Performing Arts. The B.F.A. combines dance, theatre and film and is the only one of its kind in the CUNY system. The department believes that theatre and dance artists must collaborate across disciplines and media and must produce their own creative work in order to succeed in the performing arts in the 21st century. In all the degree programs, students practice production skills in addition to performance skills. Undergraduates will not only receive a well-rounded understanding of the theatrical experience, but also valuable job skills. Students learn costume design, set construction, stage management, arts management and video/sound editing and recording. Encouraged in all degrees are coursework and internships in performing arts management to connect students to the professional arts industry in New York City and to prepare them for their professional careers.
The department produces an annual performance season of theatre and dance on the campus of Lehman College/CUNY in Bronx, NY. An integral component of the Theatre & Dance Programs, the performance season provides students a lab experience in performance, producing, technical production, and design. Several major main stage productions of plays, musicals, dance concerts, and multimedia productions, directed by faculty or professional NYC guest artists, are mounted for the public in our state-of-the-art facilities.
